Hatch the Chicken!

Stop in our Children’s Room after April 24th to check on our incubating chicken eggs! We’ll also have books and all sorts of information about chickens and how to raise them. The eggs should hatch around May 15th, so make sure you stop in to meet our new friends before they return to the farm on May 30th!

Every Wednesday, caregivers with children ages birth to three are invited to the Derby Neck Library for a play group in collaboration with Connecticut Birth to Three! Come try all the library’s resources alongside Early Interventionists who will work with you and your child to build confidence and competence and enhance child learning and development, all within the typical activities of the family.

No registration is required for this free program, just drop in!

ALSO: We collect diapers! Any size diapers that your child has outgrown can be donated to families in need. Just bring them to the program and we’ll distribute to local food banks!

Culture Club

The Culture Club meets every second Wednesday in the library’s Community Room. Join us as we explore two short stories and engage in lively conversations, copies of the two stories will be available at the library prior to each meeting. A Tribute to Kate Hepburn

Join us on Wednesday, May 8th from 1-5:30 p.m. to enjoy a double feature movie presentation of two of Hepburn’s greatest films. “The Philadelphia Story” is a classic romantic comedy co-starring Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant. “Desk Set” co-stars Spencer Tracy and pits the skills of some brainy women against a very early model office computer. A formal introduction to Hepburn’s career and these two movies begins the event.

Come check out our brand new Makerspace in the Children’s Room! Every Wednesday between 3:00pm and 6:00pm, Miss Sarah will be on hand to assist you with any project you’d like to complete. We have a LEGO wall, a programmable robot, snap circuits, origami, pixel art, ingredients for slime–you name it, we can make it happen!

Please note that the Makerspace is flooded with small parts, so we do not recommend it for very young children. No registration required, but sign up for our Youth Services mailing list to stay in the loop on cancellations by clicking here.
