There are almost no spaces available for people to come together as a community to learn, entertain themselves, or simply exist without a financial cost. This is even more true for teenagers. After-school and rec centers are not as common as they once were, but libraries remain open, welcoming spaces where teenagers can feel they belong. And it’s not just a place for reading; it’s a place for them to study, rest, try new things, find new friends, connect to their community, and so much more.

Positioned right next to the Derby Public High School and Middle School, the Derby Neck Library is where students regularly go to attend enriching programming, do their schoolwork, or just to chat before their after-school activities are scheduled. To ensure teens always feel welcome, engaged, and supported, the Derby Neck Library is looking for teens to participate in fundraising for the creation of an exclusive space, just for them.

By participating, you’ll be co-creating a space for yourself and other teens not just in the Derby Neck Library, but in your community as well. Fundraising certainly helps in realizing goals, but it also increases your sense of belonging within your community.

By pledging, you’ll be empowering teens to work with the library in co-creating a space just for them. Every book they read goes towards a space that will support them and their development into engaged members of their community.
