This year’s Summer Reading program will run from June 17th to August 15th. This year, the theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library” so we’ll be having a blast at the library this summer, ending with an even bigger and better than last year’s Summer Reading End Games on August 15th!
Guess Who’s Back?
Looking for a furry friend to read with? Adopt a Book Buddy from the Derby Neck Library! Check out 5 books or more and you’ll get to choose from one of our Buddies to bring home with you as a new furever friend, complete with a commemorative Adventure Begins at Your Library pin. Make sure to read regularly so you can collect them all!
How It Works
This year’s Summer Reading program is based on a points system. You will be earning points based on the number of days you read–whether you read a chapter of a book, a news article, a video game review, or the back of a cereal box, this counts as reading! Listening to an audiobook or watching a movie with the subtitles on counts, too!
We recommend that you track your points by signing up for READsquared here. Once you’ve registered for READsquared, you will be automatically entered into your Summer Reading 2024: Adventure Begins at Your Library program based on your age group. You can use READsquared to log your days read, play games, and earn cool badges as you progress through the Summer. Did we mention there’s a READsquared app as well? It’s available for FREE on both Android and iOS devices!
Don’t want to use READsquared? You don’t have to! We’ll have a reading calendar and instructions available at the library by request, so stop in today to get started!

Points Scale:
- Signing up for READsquared earns you 200 points
- Each day you read earns you 100 points
- Each event you attend earn you a ticket towards the Event Participation Raffle (more info to come!)
- Points are then spent at our prize table during Summer Reading End Games, PLUS every 200 points earns you a raffle ticket for our Reading Raffles!
