Youth Services at Derby Neck Library
Here at the Derby Neck Library, we want to make sure all our youth are prepared for school and life. We do this through our engaging programming for all ages, our collection of books, graphic novels. movies, magazines, and databases, and our reference services for youth and their parents. The best way to keep up with all we do is signing up for our Youth Services Mailing list here and reading our monthly newsletter and being a regular visitor to our website.

Regular Children's Programs
StoryCraft
Ages 3-12
Children of all ages are invited to enjoy this story and craft program. We read a few books related to a certain topic, and then make arts and crafts inspired by the stories.
Birth to Three Play Group
Ages Birth-3
Every Wednesday, come try all the library’s resources alongside Early Interventionists who will work with you and your child to build confidence and competence and enhance child learning and development, all within the typical activities of the family.
Cantos y Cuentos
Ages Birth-5
A special story and playtime just for babies and toddlers! We’ll have interactive toys perfect for those practicing tummy time up to those learning to stand and walk, such as shakers, interactive mats, water tables, and more!
Tales and Tunes
Ages 3-12
A musical storytelling experience like no other! We retell stories from popular books, movies, and history. Kids who attend should be comfortable sitting and watching for about 30 minutes, although questions, comments, singing along, and dancing are certainly welcome!
Drums & Strings & Shaky Things
Ages Birth-5
Come get your groove on with Brendan every other Monday during a music and movement program for Birth to 5! There will be singing, dancing, stories, and a whole lot of shaky things!
Littles’ Art Studio
Ages 3-5
Every other Tuesday, bring your little one for some artistic exploration of various art mediums! Your child will get to experiment with all sorts of artwork, bringing out their little Picasso and the best part is, we clean up the mess.
Baby Stories and Senses
Ages Birth-3

Family Fun Night
All Ages
This weekly program is fun for the whole family! Beat those cold winter months stuck in the house by getting out with your loved ones for some free entertainment at your library. Drop in anytime from 3:30-5:30 to participate in that day’s activity.
B.A.R.K.
Ages 5-12
Stop in at the library to read to dogs and Be A Reading Kid (B.A.R.K.)! Reading aloud to a dog provides an attentive audience and may boost a child’s confidence in their reading skills. Each participant will receive a commemorative photo of themselves with the dogs, as well as an experience they won’t soon forget!
Sit & Social Snacktime
Parents
Starting back up in March! On the third Monday of every month, parents with little ones are invited to join us after our morning program for snacktime in our Children’s Room! We’ll have an activity and guest speaker on a variety of topics, followed by a period of free play and socialization. Light refreshments will be served.
Makerspace
Ages 5-12
Come check out our Makerspace in the Children’s Room! Every Wednesday between 3:00pm and 4:30pm, staff will be on hand to assist you with any project you’d like to complete. We have a LEGO wall, a programmable robot, snap circuits, origami, pixel art, ingredients for slime–you name it, we can make it happen!
STEM Saturdays
Ages 3-12
STEM Saturdays is our newest children’s program offering fun science explorations that help grow understanding about the natural world and reinforce the scientific method as a tool for making meaning out of observations.
STEM Saturdays alternate weekly between programs designed for “littles” (ages 3-6) and “bigs” (ages 7+). The program begins at 2:00 and runs for 30-45 minutes.
